NZ Rosé Day
On Friday 5 February it’s NZ Rosé Day, let’s celebrate with 10% off all our packs of 2020 Rosé. That’s only $45 for two, $117 for six or $225 for 12. What a great way to start your long Waitangi weekend!
Robust and fruity rosé from ‘big reds’
Sip NZ introduced NZ Rosé Day six years ago, simply to put the variety of beautiful pink wines from across the country in the limelight. And rightfully so. These delicious, summery concoctions bring a lot to the table: they’re delightfully refreshing and offer great complexity and depth of flavour.
Most New Zealand Rosés, especially in the South Island, are made from the Pinot Noir grape. Often, they result in slightly sweet and fresh wines. Cliff Edge’s pink sip is, just like our red, made of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet-Franc. It still has that crisp edge but otherwise this blend of ‘big reds’ is robust and fruity. So no shortage of ‘oomph’ here.
Auckland 19/20 summer was hot and dry. We hoped for more abundant fruit, but the bunches were clean, plump and ripe early. Harvest was mid-March, at the optimal maturity for our style of rosé. So optimal in fact, that, after a year of red-only, we decided to put all our money (aka grapes) on pink this year.
Perfect balance of sour, salt and spice
Limited skin contact and gentle pressing has created a coral pink, full-bodied yet delicate wine. A modest nose with hints of jasmine, the flavour smooth and almost creamy, though dry, with nectarine, peach and honey. The lingering finish is the perfect balance of sour, spicy and salty. Enjoy our 2020 ‘New Beginnings’ Rosé slightly chilled with food or by itself on a hot summer day.
Cheers to New Zealand grown & made Rosé!
